A new world-class playing surface has been laid at Scunthorpe Indoor Bowls Club with cash from North Lincolnshire Council.

The bowls club – which has around 250 members – reopened on Monday, 13 December following work to lay the carpet, as well as new lighting and refurbishment and redecoration.

The ventilation system has also received an upgrade. The latest investment takes the total to more than £80,000 from North Lincolnshire Council after the roof was refurnished recently.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We are committed to supporting groups like the Indoor Bowls Club and this investment will make a real difference for many years to come. The refurbishment will improve the indoor bowls provision and enable to club to grow their membership.

“To identify where improvements were needed, we have been working closely with Scunthorpe Indoor Bowls Club, and I know they are delighted with the renovations carried out to ensure it is a top-quality community venue.”
