Young community ambassadors at the Grange Primary School have been thanked for all of their support and contributions to their community.
A special celebration assembly for key stage two, teachers and parents was held to recognise the hard work achieved by the school in the development of working to raise aspirations and connections in their community.
There was a particular thank you to six year six pupils who have been community ambassadors for the past two years.
Joined by Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, Rachel Smith, director of children and families and Paul Tinsley, interim assistant director of education, the assembly was an inspirational start to the day, and a feeling of pride was around the room.
Cllr Rob Waltham said: “Thank you firstly to all our parents, teachers and support staff who do a great job in supporting all our pupils every day. It’s wonderful to be here and take this chance to value everyone who does a great job; you are all members of the community that you live in and it’s important to all stand up and represent these values.
“Volunteering is a positive activity that improves lives, these young people have helped themselves by improving their own personal development and they have helped the people they visit to experience new perspectives.”
The values at the Grange Primary School are being reflective, resilient and respectful and the whole assembly was a chance to shine a light on the work done throughout the whole of last year.
This has encompassed charity work and engagement with parents as well as the community ambassadors and all they’ve done to make a difference to residents at Edmund House Care Home, building relationships and connections to last a lifetime.
The community ambassadors are a group of six pupils who have shone for the last two years in raising awareness and building strong bonds with residents at Edmund House, most recently winning the Easter Bunny Trail with their collaborative sculpture.
The pupils are leaving for secondary school in the summer, and have recruited their replacements. The whole school is proudly waiting to see what the next chapter of community ambassadors will achieve.
Cllr Rob Waltham went on to say: “Some of you here have been going over and above volunteering in your community and I want to extend a big thank you to each of you for making a difference. Some of your volunteering has helped others when they have perhaps felt so lonely and I thank you again for all you have done and to all of you who are going to be starting to volunteer too.”
Francesca Mawson, Headteacher of Grange Primary School, said: “Every week we talk about how we share our values, and this week is no different, we will be celebrating how we demonstrate our values whilst working with our community.
“Our assembly is a chance to look back over the year thinking about all that we’ve achieved and I’m very proud of everything our pupils, in particular our community ambassadors, have done. They are an inspiration to all of us: pupils, teachers, parents, residents of Edmund House Care Home and the wider community.”
