North Lincolnshire Armed Forces Day returns with Spitfire flypast

Armed Forces Day 2023 is set to be a fun-filled family outdoor event on Saturday 24 June at Brumby Hall Sports Ground in Scunthorpe.

It promises to be a great day out from 12pm to 5pm. Entry is free.

It’s a chance to show your support for the dedicated men and women who make up the armed forces community: from those currently in service, to veterans, cadets and their families.

Among the highlights of the day will be the opening flag raising ceremony by the British Army Band Catterick and an awe-inspiring Spitfire flypast at 4.21pm conducted by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (conditions permitting).

The event will also feature musical entertainment in the arena and on stage and much more to keep the whole family entertained throughout the day including:

  • Flag raising ceremony
  • British Army Band Catterick
  • Cadet Village and cadet games
  • Static displays
  • Military organisations
  • Live music
  • Children’s entertainment
  • Pipe Band
  • Community groups

A range of food and drink stalls will be there on the day, including ice cream, doughnuts, coffee, burgers and an outside bar.

Cllr Elaine Marper, Armed Forces Champion for North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“North Lincolnshire Armed Forces Day is always a fantastic day out for all the family. We are delighted to show our support for our brave and dedicated servicemen and women.

“The event recognises the important contribution our armed forces have made and continue to make to our country, and we thank them for their service.”

North Lincolnshire Armed Forces Hub are hosting a VIP area for the armed forces community and their families on the day.

A short procession will take place within Brumby Hall Sports Ground to start the event. Former and current members of the armed forces are invited to join the British Army Band Catterick and Cadets for the flag raising ceremony.

Alternatively please make yourself known at event control, which will be located by the entrance on the day at 1200hrs.

Parking is available at UCNL. Disabled parking is available at the sports ground itself, a Blue Badge must be shown.

Bag checks will be carried out throughout the day.

Dogs are not allowed to the event except service dogs.

Armed Forces Day is part of North Lincolnshire Council’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, having been awarded Gold in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Awards in 2020.
