Community groups can apply for a share of £5,000 funding to provide physical activities for people with learning disabilities and autism.

The funding will be used to develop and deliver physical activities for people with learning difficulties or autism to improve their health and wellbeing in safe and secure surroundings.

Up to £500 will be available for local groups to deliver programmes. The funding is intended to cover programme delivery and will finish by the end of March 2025.

Almost 10,000 people with learning disabilities and autism have been supported as part of a wider project, and now even more can benefit in their communities.

Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children, said:

“The creation of the additional funding will enable us to strengthen communities across North Lincolnshire by upskilling, increasing knowledge and enabling community not-for-profit organisations to enhance and develop inclusive community-led provision for people with learning disabilities and autism.

“It is brilliant that thousands of people have been supported so far and that even more can with the allocation of this funding for community groups to create inclusive physical activities within communities.”

Participating community groups will also attend the Activity Alliance’s Inclusive Activity Programme training course. This course equips participants with the skills needed to effectively engage disabled individuals and those with long-term health conditions in physical activities.

Further details on how to apply for the funding will be available soon.
