Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, welcomed today’s announcement that the Government is to plough £118m into improving transport in North Lincolnshire.

The cash is part of £4.7bn announced today by the Prime Minister from the reallocated HS2 funding, boosting the money available through the Local Transport Fund (LTF).

Cllr Waltham said: “This unprecedented investment of Government cash will be a game changer for transport in North Lincolnshire.

“It shows the Government is backing our plans to make generational change across the whole the area.

“This will have a major impact on our communities and shows the decision to scrap HS2 and divert to improve areas like ours was the right one. It will make journeys quicker, support public transport and improve the road network.”

As part of the announcement, North East Lincolnshire Council will receive £119m and Lincolnshire County Council £262m – meaning residents across the whole of Lincolnshire will benefit from almost half a billion pounds of transport funding.

The funding will be available from 2025 across the following seven years. Currently, North Lincolnshire receives £1.17m a year through the LTF.

Cllr Waltham said: “Across greater Lincolnshire the investment will be half a billion pounds at a time when we are looking to work together – this will be on top of the £720m investment the area will receive if we agree to the devolution deal.

“This cash will go a long way to enable generational change for the 1.1m residents across the great county of Lincolnshire.”
