Saplings are appearing all across the area as the community gets behind our ambition to plant 172,000 trees – one for every person in North Lincolnshire.

Businesses are also keen to join our scheme. Public sector software providers Arcus Global recently donated 100 trees as part of the company’s Grow Green With Us initiative.

The sweet chestnuts, silver birches and hornbeams are being stored over the summer, ready for planting in November on land off Queensway, behind Chestnut Way, in Scunthorpe.

The company have also pledged to donate trees on a yearly basis.

Arcus Global head of marketing Charlotte Fionda said: “The Grow Green with Us tree planting programme is our way of saying thank you to our valued customers and helping to enrich local spaces for their citizens.

“Green spaces greatly benefit people living around them, reducing stress and encouraging exercise, by giving people a good quality area local to them to spend their recreation time.

“With new saplings planted each year, we’re committed to helping our customers create happy and healthy communities and neighbourhoods, whilst working towards reducing carbon emissions.”

By filling in our registration form every time a tree is planted, everyone who has responded has helped our online tree counter reach a fantastic  61,449.

You can see the areas where trees have been planted on the tree map on our website.

Areas where we have no record of new plantings include Bottesford and Messingham, Kirton, Burton upon Stather and Owston Ferry – if you live there and have space in your garden for a tree, then why not do your bit for the environment and put your community on our map?

You can find out more about tree planting, and the Northern Forest scheme, of which we are a part, on the Woodland Trust website.
