Are you, or is someone you know, looking for opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people in North Lincolnshire? If so, we would love to hear from you!
North Lincolnshire Council is appealing for volunteers to join its Independent Education Appeals Panel, which hears appeals from parents who have been refused a place for their child at their preferred school and reviews decisions around the exclusion of pupils. This includes primary and secondary schools/academies.
We are looking for people from all walks of life with different experiences and skills who reflect our wonderfully diverse county and to ensure that our panels are inclusive and representative.
Panel member qualities and abilities that we are looking for include:
Good listener.
Impartial.
Analyse information.
Work as part of a team.
Communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
Read and assess information and identify key points/issues.
Ask questions to obtain information and clarify points being made.
A current panel member said: “I applied to become an appeals panel member to give something back to the education community that I have been part of for many years.
“I wanted to play a role in a child’s future education, and thought it would be a very thought provoking role and it most certainly is, especially when listening to opposing views and then coming to a balanced and collaborative decision with others on the panel.
“I have met many new and interesting people from different walks of life whilst also developing my communication skills.”
Full training will be provided, including opportunities to observe panel meetings and although the role is voluntary, panel members can claim for expenses.
Applications close midnight Sunday 24 November 2024.
