Town centre groups are being urged to apply for cash to fund community projects to help vulnerable groups and tackle anti-social behaviour.

The Safer Streets Fund will mean groups in Crosby and Town can apply for up to £3,500.

It is hoped the fund will empower communities by involving residents in projects such as social activities for vulnerable groups and street sports and mentoring for young people.

Cllr John Davison, Cabinet member for Community Wellbeing (Urban), said: “This cash is going exactly where it is needed most – the local community.

“Crosby and Town residents are best placed to know exactly what their neighbourhoods need to cut crime, support vulnerable residents, increase health and wellbeing and grow community pride.

“I hope they take full advantage of these grants to make a real difference to the streets where they live.”

The projects can focus on tackling problems such as drug use, graffiti, fly-tipping, violence and arson.

The funds can also be used to set up and develop residents’ groups and community safety champions as well as raising attendance at Neighbourhood Action Team meetings and Neighbourhood Watch groups.

Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner Jonathan Evison said: “I am pleased to see the launch of the new community grant fund for the area.

“I hope that local groups take up the opportunity to apply for funds for the ranges of projects this covers. I look forward to seeing this develop and the projects that come from it.”

The fund follows the recent launch of Safer Streets, which is funded by the Community Safety Partnership, and working towards making communities feel safer and neighbourhoods more welcoming.

The Community Safety Partnership includes North Lincolnshire Council, Humberside Police, Humberside Fire and Rescue, Ongo, the National Probation Service, NHS Humber and North Yorkshire ICB (Integrated Care Board) and the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner.

To apply for funding, fill in the form on the crime and community safety page of our website. Applications need to be submitted and funds spent by March 2025.
