Free activities for young people in Winterton during the summer holidays

Children and young people in Winterton will be able to access a variety of free activities during the school holidays to keep them active and entertained.  

The council has joined forces with Winterton Town Council to run the free activities at Winterton Community Pavilion.  

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6pm to 7pm starting the week commencing 22 July for six weeks, Street Sport multi-sport/fitness sessions will be running at Winterton Community Pavilion for those aged eight to 18. There is no need to book, just turn up. A parental consent form will need to be completed at the first session. 

The ‘Light Up Winterton’ Group will be hosting free activities at Winterton Community Pavilion on Fridays from 10am to 2pm. No booking necessary. Take a picnic, snacks and drinks.  

The Fuelled holiday activities and food programme will also be running different sessions (for eligible children only). Visit the council’s website for more information: www.northlincs.gov.uk/fuelled. 

Cllr Pauline Howden, Mayor of Winterton Town Council, said: 

“Winterton Town Council continues to commit to the young people in the town. 

by working in partnership with the council, we are really pleased that we agreed to offer our fantastic facility that is the Winterton Community Pavilion at no cost on a Tuesday and Wednesday evening.” 

Cllr Elaine Marper, ward member for Burton-upon-Stather and Winterton, said: 

“Along with my fellow ward members Cllr Ralph Ogg and Cllr Helen Rowson, we have been working closely with Winterton Town Council to secure these free activities for the town. It is wonderful to see so many fun activities planned during the summer holidays to keep our young people in Winterton and surrounding villages active. The six-week holidays can be a difficult time for many families, and we hope these free activities will help to keep children busy and cut down costs as it can soon get very expensive.” 

In addition, NL Active has organised more activities in Winterton for young people.  

Skateboard workshops at Winterton Skatepark for new starters and beginners (4pm to 5.30pm), and intermediate levels (5.30pm to 7pm) on:

  • Monday 5 August 
  • Tuesday 13 August 
  • Thursday 22 August 
  • Wednesday 28 August 

All the equipment such as skateboards, helmets and pads will be provided, and all sessions are free. The sessions are open to all ages and abilities and there’s no need to book, just turn up! The council is also funding free swimming over the summer holidays across North Lincolnshire for those aged 16 and under as part of the Summer Daze programme. Look for sessions called ‘Summer Daze’ on the pool timetables. 

Junior Gym is returning to Winterton Gym and sessions will take place every Wednesday from 4.30pm to 5.30pm. Junior Gym is an instructor led activity for 11 to 16 year olds where they’ll use the gym equipment and complete challenges set by the instructor. Sessions cost £3.90. Contact the gym for further information.

“We are committed to supporting families in North Lincolnshire to ensure young people have the best opportunities. By providing activities like this it means young people can be active but also have fun with their peers. The summer holidays can feel like a very long time, especially if you don’t have the budget to pay for days out and activities, so this investment will help families.”
