Flood resilience work to be carried out at Bottesford Beck

To improve flood resilience for properties nearby to Bottesford Beck, de-silting works are being carried out from Monday 17 February.

Work will take place between Bottesford and Yaddlethorpe visitor centre and Holme Lane, and is expected to take three weeks.

De-silting Bottesford Beck is necessary to remove the build-up of silt along the bed and ensure it is free flowing. It involves excavating 300mm of siltation from the main stream channel in the beck, removing aquatic weeds from the root and all drainage outfalls will be cleansed. A small number of overhanging trees will be felled where necessary to prevent any blockages within the watercourse.

Residents will still have full access to Bottesford Beck whilst work is carried out. Signs will be in place to make people aware of the work taking place.

Visitors to the beck will notice the wet silt will deposited along the banks during the works. Once completed, the siltation deposits will be left to dry out naturally.

A study has been carried out on the wildlife and environment working with the Environment Agency and the council. The de-silting is being undertaken before the bird nesting season and wildlife won’t be affected.
