Some families with children with special educational needs and disabilities have been familiarising themselves with the amazing facilities that will be on offer at North Lincolnshire’s new £6m complex care campus. The verdict from one young person when she visited was “it’s my dream”.
Tree Tops in Scunthorpe boasts a state of the art design that provides first-rate facilities for children needing overnight short breaks and family support , including help to live independently. Staff will provide outstanding care for children with complex needs, including health and physical difficulties.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire, who joined families on the visit, said: “This is a significant council investment in making sure our young people with complex needs gain support in North Lincolnshire.
“It is really an impressive facility, and it was designed with the input of local families to ensure all their needs are met. The parents were impressed but the reaction of the children themselves when they sampled what was on offer shows this was worth every penny of the £6m investment.
“We are awaiting approval from Ofsted and hopefully this will come soon so local families can make full use of Tree Tops. In the meantime, there will be a number of activities taking place so families can familiarise themselves with all the great things the facilities provides.”
Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children, families and communities, said: “Tree Tops means that, for the first time in North Lincolnshire, families will be able to access palliative care right here instead of travelling out of the area.
“These visits, in advance of opening, will give local families an insight into all it has to offer – giving parents piece of mind before it fully opens and children a chance to familiarise themselves with the facility.”
