Winterton is set to benefit from a brand-new pump track, with funding secured through North Lincolnshire Council. The project, led by Winterton Town Council, will see the installation of a purpose-built pump park on land behind the Winterton Community Pavilion on Newport Drive.
The £120,804 project will deliver a high-quality recreational facility suitable for all ages and abilities, promoting outdoor activity, physical fitness, and community wellbeing. The pump track will provide a safe and exciting space for children and young people to enjoy cycling and scootering, while also helping to reduce anti-social behaviour by transforming a previously underused area into a vibrant community asset. The project includes extended CCTV coverage and a Biodiversity Gain Plan to enhance the surrounding environment.
Public support for the project has been overwhelmingly positive. Comments submitted during the planning process highlighted the lack of recreational facilities in Winterton and the desire for more inclusive, outdoor spaces. One resident described the project as “long overdue” and “much needed to encourage outdoor activity for the younger generation,” while another said, “Winterton has waited too long for such a facility and it would be much appreciated by all children locally.”
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This is a fantastic initiative that will make a real difference to families in Winterton. The pump track will be a brilliant addition to the town, giving children and young people a safe and fun place to be active. It’s about creating opportunities for healthier lifestyles and stronger communities.”
Cllr Elaine Marper, cabinet member for Transforming the Customer Journey, added: “I’m delighted to see this project moving forward. It’s a great investment in Winterton that will have a lasting impact on the lives of local young people. The pump track will not only provide a much-needed facility but also help improve the local environment and reduce anti-social behaviour.”
Cllr Pauline Howden, Mayor of Winterton Town Council, commented on the announcement and said: “This is a really exciting development for Winterton. The new pump track will be a fantastic asset for our town, offering a safe, inclusive space for children and young people to enjoy outdoor activity. We’re proud to be leading this project and grateful for the support from North Lincolnshire Council. It’s a great example of what can be achieved when we invest in our community’s wellbeing and future.”
Funding is made available through North Lincolnshire Council’s management of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
