Get ready to build, balance, draw and discover – a brand-new family experience is about to open in Scunthorpe.
Discover@20-21, the new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) interactive gallery opens its doors on Thursday 30 October – bringing together creativity and curiosity in spectacular style.
Designed especially for families, the colourful, hands-on gallery is packed with activities that make learning feel like play. From glowing light tables and magnetic walls to spinning illusions and digital art screens, every corner invites children to experiment, imagine and explore.
Young inventors can build landscapes of light, solve circuit mazes, and test their balance on wobbly towers. Budding artists can create dazzling patterns, digital paintings and geometric puzzles – then see their masterpieces projected onto the huge chancel window for everyone to enjoy.
Outside, optical illusions and playful perspective tricks turn science into magic, revealing how shapes, light and movement can fool the eye and spark the mind.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Discover@20-21 is a brilliant new space for families to explore, get creative and have fun together. It’s exciting, hands-on and totally different – a place where children can see how imagination and innovation can shape the world around them.”
Cllr John Davison, cabinet member for safer, stronger communities (urban), added: “This new feature is something special for Scunthorpe – a space where children can play, experiment and let their imaginations run wild. It shows that learning doesn’t have to be in a classroom – it can happen through laughter, colour and creativity.”
Discover@20-21 opens on Thursday 30 October and will be open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
Free to visit, it’s a place where science meets art, families meet fun, and every visit sparks something new.
