Council leaders from across greater Lincolnshire have come together to further strengthen ties across the historic county, backing plans to create a better future.
Cllrs Rob Waltham (North Lincolnshire), Philip Jackson (North East Lincolnshire) and Martin Hill (Lincolnshire County) met at Church Square House in Scunthorpe for the latest Greater Lincolnshire Joint Strategic Oversight Committee.
The three leaders agreed plans to boost visitor numbers, to collaborate further to make sure people in Lincolnshire have the skills required to access the many thousands of jobs being created across the county and how best to take advantage of the Government’s Levelling-Up agenda.
The leaders also discussed plans to join together for a Lincolnshire Day celebration on 1 October at Normanby Hall – recognising all that is great about the county.
Cllr Rob Waltham MBE, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “It was fantastic to be able to welcome fellow leaders from across Lincolnshire – we have a great deal in common, not least the fact we are working really hard to create a better future for the million residents who live in the county.
“For many years there has been an invisible line when in fact we are all part of the same county – Lincolnshire. This is the first time the three councils will come together for Lincolnshire Day, and I am delighted it is being celebrated in such a way.”
Cllr Philip Jackson, leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “From the Humber to the Wash, Greater Lincolnshire has it all. From the industrial heartlands of the estuary and its green revolution to the rolling hills of the Wolds, our coastal towns, and the food economy further south – together we offer a vibrant, pleasant, and growing place in which to live, work and play.
“The opportunity for civic and political heads to get together on Lincolnshire Day is most welcome – a chance of us to unite, bringing our individual areas closer and exploring ways in which we can unite to look at further opportunities.
“And of course, we will also be celebrating the unique place that is Greater Lincolnshire along with its people, its history and its future.”
Cllr Martin Hill OBE, leader of Lincolnshire County Council, said: “Our partnership across Greater Lincolnshire continues to strengthen, and we’re committed to working together for the benefit of all our residents, joining up services where we can to provide easier access and save taxpayers’ money.
“Together we have a stronger voice on the national stage, to showcase what is great about our county, promote our businesses, and lobby for fairer funding.
“I’m also delighted that this year, for the first time, the leaders of North Lincolnshire Council, North East Lincolnshire Council and I will be joining together on 1 October to celebrate the whole of our great county on Lincolnshire Day. We have a shared heritage, and we’re working together for a shared future.”
