A brand-new, free multi-level indoor soft play centre has been opened at St John’s Market in Scunthorpe.

The bright and colourful facility on the first floor of the market was made possible thanks to £25,000 of Government cash from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Mayor of North Lincolnshire Janet Longcake, cabinet member for safer, stronger communities (urban) John Davison and Scunthorpe MP Holly Mumby-Croft were the first to try out the new facilities after officially opening the new area.

The market-themed play area will be open 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Food court traders will be providing special children’s meals and Scribbles Art Shack will be running ‘stay and create’ sessions Thursday to Saturday (charges apply).

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The new soft play area is the latest part of our plans to radically transform Scunthorpe town centre and is a perfect addition to St John’s Market.

“The continuous investment we have received from the Government enables us to create more reasons for people to come into town and experience something new.”

The soft play centre, designed and installed by leading national UK soft play company Soft Brick, provides different play areas including a designated area for babies, toddlers and children up to eight years, with parent supervision to be maintained at all times. Parents are reminded to read the safety signs before letting their children play.

Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children, families and communities said: “This new soft play facility is going to bring hours of fun for families with young children and has been designed to encourage exploration, decision making, imagination and discovery.

“It is a one-of-a-kind leisure attraction that is situated in the heart of Scunthorpe and provides children with a safe place to play.

“Whilst the children are playing, parents will be able to enjoy a cup of coffee, catch up with friends or meet other parents. It is a perfect opportunity for people to explore the other delights that St John’s Market has to offer.”
