Thousands of youngsters across North Lincolnshire will be able to take advantage of free swimming through the summer holidays.

The council’s ever popular boredom-busting scheme will return, with all five pools throwing open their doors for free under 16 sessions for the entire summer break.

Free swimming sessions at Epworth Swimming Pool are also being funded by the council as part of the programme.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “With the half-term break coming to an end, many families will be looking ahead to the summer.

“Parents often ask me about low-cost activities to keep kids entertained, which is why I’m delighted that we’ve kept our promise and will – once again – be opening all our pools for free swimming.

“These sessions will help keep children active and won’t cost families a penny.”

The sessions will take place at The Pods in Scunthorpe, Ancholme Leisure Centre in Brigg, Axholme North Leisure Centre in Crowle, Baysgarth Community Hub in Barton-upon-Humber, Riddings Community Hub in Scunthorpe and at Epworth Swimming Pool.

Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children, families, and communities, said:

“As a parent myself I know the six-week break can feel like a long time to keep children occupied, which is why I’m really pleased to see free swimming return across the area.

“The sessions are a brilliant way for kids to have fun with their friends in a secure environment with trained lifeguards to help them stay safe.”
