The leader of North Lincolnshire Council expressed his disappointment with the Governments decision to give planning permission for an incinerator on the edge of Scunthorpe.
The secretary of state has approved an application by North Lincolnshire Green Energy Park Limited to build a plant that will burn up to 760,000 tonnes of rubbish a year.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “I am disappointed that the Government hasn’t listened to local residents and the council and has given the go ahead for rubbish to be burnt at a massive plant in Flixborough. The council has been clear throughout the planning process that this is the wrong location for an incinerator that will be burning waste generated in other parts of the country. We will look at our further options to oppose this development that will be a blight on the area and increase traffic.
“Over the last few years I have met with hundreds of residents who have opposed this application. It is inconceivable that their views are deemed worthless. This reckless act of permitting this incinerator will create next to no employment and at the same time bring massive inconvenience to local people, as well as being a blot on the landscape for years to come.”
