Cllr Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, the Young Mayor Zaynah Jamal and members of the Youth Council ran, crawled, climbed and swung their way to victory on Saturday 31 July 2021.

In a race against time, they conquered the 25 obstacles by wading through mud swamps, diving into ice-cold water, climbing to new heights and completed a total distance of 10 miles to make it across the finish line.

The team took on the challenge in a bid to raise money for The Forge Project in Scunthorpe, which is a local lifeline of support for many individuals. They provide food, shelter and an opportunity of support from outside agencies.

The team received a huge amount of support during their Tough Mudder journey and quickly surpassed their fund raising target. With donations continuously flooding in until the deadline, they raised a startling £1,120.

Cllr Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council said: “Tough Mudder was an unbelievable challenge. The obstacles were phenomenal and the amount of mud was relentless.

“We put a lot of hard work in over the last few months, so I was confident that we had done enough to see us victorious and complete the challenge and was a brilliant feeling when we crossed the finish line.

“I am extremely proud of the team for facing the challenge head on and thoroughly enjoyed getting to spend time with some of our passionate and influential young people. The team spirit and unity of everyone taking part on the day was an incredible experience and all in aid of a great cause.

“I would like to thank everyone who has shown their support and donated. To surpass our target before we had even completed the event is truly humbling and will make a tremendous difference to The Forge Project.”

The Young Mayor of North Lincolnshire, Zaynah Jamal added: “Tough Mudder was an amazing challenge to complete. We had a whole lot of fun and I was covered from head to toe in mud quite early on in the challenge. There was a Marshall at the event who told me that I was the muddiest person they had seen that day. It was just brilliant from start to finish.

“The event was definitely as tough as I thought it would be, the obstacles just kept on coming and getting through the 10-mile course was an enormous task and really pushes you to the limit but we all made it and were still smiling when we crossed the finish line.

“The support and generosity that we received is unbelievable and I am so grateful to everyone. The difference that this money will make to The Forge project is amazing. It definitely made this whole experience worth it.”
