North Lincolnshire Council has awarded Broughton Primary School £4,000 towards the cost of developing a secure forest school area.
Work on the forest school has already started within the woodland at the front of the school.
The funding was allocated from the council’s SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Capital Funding pot of £100,000.
All schools were able to bid for a share of the funding for 2018/19. In their bids, schools explained the project they were seeking funding for and the impact it would have on the children and young people within their school.
SEND funding supports schools to enhance facilities to enable children and young people with SEND to recognise and achieve their full potential.
Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:
“It is fantastic to see this funding being put to good use and making a real difference for our young people. The forest school at Broughton Primary School will give young people the opportunity to learn in a different environment and improve their skills.
“Investing in schools is a real priority for this council.
“The recent Annual Education Report highlighted how children and young people in North Lincolnshire are getting a better quality of education than ever before. This is something we are committed to continuing and developing.”
