As part of the Safer Nights campaign, Scunthorpe United Football Club has partnered with North Lincolnshire Community Safety Partnership (CSP) to help promote the importance of people feeling and staying safe.
The club will promote the Safer Nights campaign throughout their ground and on billboards to provide the latest information, including links to the website and details on the WalkSafe app, as well as on their social media channels, programmes and large screens.
The team, staff and volunteers at the club will be trained on Active Bystander, Respect and Ask Angela, and once a month all the entertainment staff will wear the Safer Nights t-shirts and share promotional materials on the campaign. Bleed kits and first aid training will also be available, and spiking and ‘One Punch’ awareness.
Cllr John Davison, cabinet member for community wellbeing (urban – Ashby, Bottesford and Scunthorpe), said:
“It is a pleasure to welcome Scunthorpe United Football Club as a new member of the North Lincolnshire Community Safety Partnership. Our Safer Nights campaign is key to making our town centres safe places to visit and enjoy our many nighttime leisure offerings. Having Scunthorpe United Football Club as a key partner will help raise awareness of our ongoing work to achieve this aim, and by coming together with our other partner organisations it will enable us to share best practice and potentially life-saving skills.
“Keeping people safe and well is our top priority, and we want to ensure that our nighttime economy continues to grow with safety and vibrancy at the forefront.”
Glyn Sparks, Head of Partnerships at Scunthorpe United Football Club, said:
“We at Scunthorpe United are proud to be working closely with North Lincolnshire Community Safety Partnership’s Safer Nights campaign and all the hard work they are doing, we look forward to building on the partnership and showing how Scunthorpe United can help promote awareness of safety so you can enjoy your night out.”
Superintendent Gary Foster, Humberside Police, said:
“Scunthorpe United’s support of the Safer Nights North Lincolnshire programme is a real testament to the hard work of the partnership in recruiting wider partners, and we are very grateful to the football club for sharing the message amongst fans and the wider community about the importance of keeping people safe, and reducing violence against women and girls, and the perception of it, in our local area”.
Leo Hammond, Deputy Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner, said:
“I’d like to thank Scunthorpe United for working with us to make our streets safer for all. To end violence against women and girls we need to stop the minority of men who think this poor behaviour is acceptable. To do that, the majority of men who don’t, need to take the lead and call out poor behaviour.”

About Safer Nights
The Safety at Night Charter is about taking practical steps together to make North Lincolnshire Safer at Night. Everyone should feel empowered to take responsibility for creating positive changes and pledging alliance to a united commitment.
The Safety at Night Charter is a pledge to show venues take the safety of everyone in the night-time economy seriously. By signing the Charter, they show their acknowledgement of the issue and that they are being proactive in improving the safety of those working in the night-time economy and members of the public who want to enjoy socialising safely.
While the Charter focuses on Safety at Night it is important that we recognise the pledges must also cover all times of night and day and responsible socialising.
