Hundreds of children and young people across North Lincolnshire will access activities within their communities including after-school clubs, creative sessions, sports, and youth groups across the coming months thanks to thanks to a major cash boost from North Lincolnshire Council.
Almost £50,000 is being awarded to local organisations to deliver open-access youth activities – creating safe spaces where young people can build friendships, boost their confidence, and access support when they need it.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This cash reflects our commitment to children and young people, helping them to grow up with strong foundations, surrounded by opportunity.
“By supporting local organisations who know their communities best, we are ensuring that any provision is rooted in the places where young people live and learn. This is part of our long-term plan to invest in the things that matter to residents and communities across North Lincolnshire.”
The investment, delivered through the council’s Positive Activities grants scheme, will support community organisations to provide a wide range of events and activities designed to boost children’s wellbeing, and give young people greater voice and influence.
This is on top of all the other activities going on across North Lincolnshire this summer in the town centre, at venues like 20-21, North Lincolnshire Museum, Normanby Hall and free swimming for youngsters at all leisure centres.
Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for independent families – children, said: “We know how challenging it is for families finding things for their children to do during the summer holidays and this is especially welcomed by parents and carers who can be reassured that their children are in a safe, nurturing and fun environment. We know how powerful these activities can be in the life of a young person, giving them confidence, trusted adults to talk to, and positive things to do.”
The new provision will begin rolling out from this summer, with delivery partners working closely with young people to shape the activities and support on offer.
