A new exhibition crafted entirely out of LEGO® bricks is set to open at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre on Saturday 5 October 2019.

The Brick by Brick exhibition celebrates the beloved toy bricks and features the work of18 artists, designers and photographers from around the world who use LEGO® bricks as their medium or inspiration.

Using this simple plastic construction block as their starting point, they have created stunning, thought provoking and often humorous artworks which will appeal to art enthusiasts and LEGO® fans alike.

The 2D and 3D pieces that make up the exhibition include LEGO® recreations of other famous artworks, ornate LEGO® models, entire LEGO® buildings, photographs, and much more.

Cllr David Rose, cabinet member responsible for 20-21 Visual Arts Centre on North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“Many of us will have happy memories of playing with LEGO bricks, and this family-friendly exhibition is sure to fire-up your imagination, and maybe even get you digging in the loft for your collection of colourful bricks!

“This is a chance to see the world-famous toy in a way that you’ve never seen it before, and you’ll honestly be surprised by the vast range of incredible things these artists have done with the simple plastic bricks.”

Inspired by the wide range of artworks on show, a LEGO® graffiti wall, build tables and a selection of LEGO® related games and competitions will give visitors the opportunity to try their hand at creating their own construction brick artwork.

To celebrate the launch of the Brick by Brick exhibition, 20-21 is hosting a free Fun Day on Saturday 5 October from 10am to 4pm. Come along and meet LEGO® characters Emmet and Lucy, have a go at our LEGO® brick challenges, take part in a golden brick treasure hunt and a mini-figure safari competition, and help us to complete a large-scale LEGO® brick mosaic.

The gallery will also be hosting a range of LEGO®-related workshops suitable for adults and children, throughout the Brick by Brick exhibition. More information about the workshops, and all the upcoming activities at 20-21, can be found on their website at www.2021visualartscentre.co.uk.

Brick by Brick will be on display at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre on Church Square in Scunthorpe from Saturday 5 October 2019 until Saturday 4 January 2020.
