Young people aged between 5 and 19 years old will pay £1 for single bus journeys within North Lincolnshire during the six-week summer school holidays, commencing 21 July 2024.

Kickstart your summer holidays by travelling across North Lincolnshire via bus and visit Normanby Hall Country Park, NL Active leisure centres, 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, Vue cinema, North Lincolnshire Museum, Waters’ Edge Visitor Centre and Country Park, retail outlets or visit friends and family for only £1.

The scheme will make it more affordable for families travelling with young children to get out and about during the holidays with single bus tickets for children £1, single bus tickets for adults £2. (Children travelling unaccompanied do so at the discretion of the parent/carer and the bus driver).

Cllr Tim Mitchell, cabinet member for connectivity, said:

“We are continuing to work closely with our main commercial partners serving North Lincolnshire – Hornsby Travel, Stagecoach East Midlands, East Yorkshire Buses – as part of the Enhanced Partnership Board to make improvements to bus services across the county.

“This scheme is the latest development to support our young people in North Lincolnshire and encourage them to use public transport more. There is a programme of school summer holidays activities for young people to get involved in, including free swimming sessions at our leisure centres that young people will be able to catch the bus to get to.

“We have made significant improvements to our bus networks recently by extending services with extra days, later and earlier buses and widening the network to reach more communities more often.”

“There has never been a better time to ‘Take The Bus’.”

Karl Robinson, General Manager, Hornsby Travel, said:

“The £1 fare for under 19s is a great scheme to encourage younger people to use the buses in North Lincolnshire, giving them more independence and not having to rely on lifts from parents.”

Ben Gilligan, Managing Director of East Yorkshire Buses, said:

“We are pleased to support the initiative to bring reduced travel costs to young people across our services in North Lincolnshire this summer. The initiative will open up opportunities to access leisure opportunities across the region and allow this to be done in a sustainable way.”

Matt Cranwell, Managing Director of Stagecoach East Midlands said:

“We are pleased to be working with North Lincolnshire Council to offer the £1 fare during the school and college holidays, helping young people to visit friends, family and places. Using the bus is safe, easy and environmentally friendly, and helps to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality. We know young people are very aware of the importance of looking after their local environment.”

Residents can have their say and share their views on the bus networks in North Lincolnshire; the bus services, bus stops/infrastructure and public transport information, by completing an online survey

Under 16s can also enjoy free swimming this summer as part of the ‘Summer Daze’ sessions and travel to leisure centres in North Lincolnshire by bus for just a £1.
