£1.3m Government grant to support local families

This summer will see the area’s biggest support scheme launched thanks to a £1.3m Government cash boost for North Lincolnshire. This money has been provided by the Government to help older people and families who are experiencing challenges because of global rising inflation affecting heating bills and food costs.

Thanks to this record Government investment in North Lincolnshire, families of 7,500 children who are eligible for free school meals will receive a £50 food voucher per child in the summer. A further 1,000 families on the lowest incomes will also receive a voucher. There is no need to apply and these will be sent out automatically.

A grant scheme to help people who need it most will be set up to help with household bills which will be targeted to the most vulnerable, including pensioners on low incomes.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The Government continues to provide unprecedented resources to support people and businesses that need it most. With the global situation causing rising energy and food bills, I am delighted that the Government has stepped-up yet again to support the most vulnerable in North Lincolnshire.

“We have worked with our MPs Holly Mumby-Croft, Andrew Percy and Martin Vickers to ensure that this Government support goes to families who need it most over the summer.

“As well as financial support, the council will also work with residents to help them to improve their job prospects which includes finding a new job or to gain higher paid work.”

The new scheme follows the success of the Household Winter Support Fund that helped almost 8,500 families and provided much needed financial support to 7,500 households for things like food and energy bills over the winter period. Over 2,300 pensioners on the lowest incomes were also supported.
