Clinical Waste

Clinical waste is waste that has the potential to cause infection or disease. North Lincolnshire Council will ensure it is collected and processed in line with clinical waste legislation to prevent harm to any person or the environment.

Service features:

  • Orange sacks and sharps containers
  • Weekly, fortnightly or adhoc collections available
  • All waste collected will be processed in line with current clinical waste legislation
  • Annual paperwork provided to ensure our customers are Duty of Care compliant.

Containers

Orange sacks

  • Holds approximately 8kgs. Dimensions: 93cm x 72cm.

Sharps container

  • 2.5 litres in size. Dimensions 17cm x 16cm, 54cm circumference.

Please note – Orange clinical waste bags are for infectious or potentially infectious soft clinical waste which is contaminated with blood/bodily fluids.

We cannot provide a collection of Yellow clinical bags for infectious clinical waste contaminated with chemicals or pharmaceutical/medicinal waste, or Tiger bags for offensive, non-infectious waste e.g., nappies and incontinence products.

What we can collect

  • Needles, lancets, syringes and empty insulin cartridges
  • Dialysis and colostomy waste
  • Swabs, wipes, dressings and bandages
  • Gloves, gowns, masks and aprons
  • Chiropody waste.
  • Beauty treatment waste.

Please remember:

  • Do not use the bags/containers for the disposal of free liquids.
  • Orange sacks should be filled no more than two thirds full OR to a maximum weight of 8kgs, whichever is reached first.
  • Clinical waste disposal bags should be sealed at the point of production using the swan-neck method.
