Summary narrative

West Street Children’s Centre is located in Scunthorpe North locality with the catchment including parts of Crosby and Park and Town wards.

An estimated 935 under 5s live in this catchment area, which is about 11% of all under 5s in North Lincolnshire; nearly half (45%) of resident women are of child bearing age.

The adult population of this area have relatively poor general health with the lowest male and female life expectancy in North Lincolnshire and significantly below the local and national average.
Child poverty in the area is high with over two thirds (69%) of under 5’s living in England’s 30% most deprived neighbourhoods; 38% of resident children live in relative low income, a quarter (26%) are eligible for free school meals and 17% of households claim Universal Credit.

The area has the second highest fertility rate in North Lincolnshire, the highest percentage of mothers born outside the UK or with a minority ethnic background and one of the highest numbers of births to women under 20; it also has the highest number of maternity bookings.
