Summary narrative

Brigg Rural Children’s Centre is located in Brigg and District locality and is coterminous with Brigg and Wolds and Broughton and Appleby wards.

An estimated 765 under 5s live in this catchment area which represents 9% of all under 5s in North Lincolnshire; over a quarter (29%) of resident women are of child bearing age.

The adult population of this area experience average health with male and female life expectancies similar to the local averages.

This area has lower than average levels of child poverty with one in ten under 5s living in England’s 30% most deprived neighbourhoods, 14% of under 16s living in relative low income and a fifth eligible for free school meals; all significantly below average.

The general fertility rate, births to mothers born outside of the UK and to women of a minority ethnic background are both significantly below average.

The proportion of births that are premature, of low birth weight, to women under 20 and to smokers are all below average and amongst the lowest in North Lincolnshire; breastfeeding initiation and the number of women who are very overweight at booking are close to the local average.
