The council have a legal requirement to prepare a Statement of Community Involvement under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (as amended). The SCI includes details on how and when community involvement will take place and who will be consulted in the preparation of plans and in decision-making on planning applications. The Local Plan is still at an early stage and must go through a number of stages before it is adopted by the council. The Plan will be supported by an updated evidence base, to justify the policy approach taken, and be informed by community and stakeholder engagement. Initial stage of consultation and a call for sites addendum to inform the preparation of the Local Plan evidence base and Draft Local Plan (Stage 1) has concluded. All sites submitted during the call for sites addendum consultation are currently under review for inclusion within the draft Local Plan.
The council has published a revised Local Development Scheme (LDS), setting out an updated timetable for preparing the emerging Local Plan. The LDS explains the key stages in the plan-making process and provides clarity on when consultation and engagement will take place.
