What is the Positive Activities Grant?

The Positive Activities Grant is managed by the North Lincolnshire Council Communities Team and is designed to benefit young people aged 11 to 19 (up to 25 with SEND) by grant-aiding organisations who provide the following activities:-

  • Sport, leisure and culture
  • Young voice and engagement
  • Volunteering

  • Informal social activities.

Organisation/projects/clubs that deliver recreational and educational leisure-time for young people within North Lincolnshire can apply for the grant.

Organisations must be voluntary or not for profit and have a Development Plan prior to commencement of the project/provision. Grants will only be allocated to organisations who will deliver positive activities to groups of young people aged 11 to 19 (up to 25 with a learning disability or disability.)

A maximum of one application per organisation is permitted for every Band (where eligible).

The following cannot apply for the grant

  1. Organisations that do not deliver positive activities within North Lincolnshire
  2. Individuals or organisations who fund individuals.

Organisations can apply for up to £5,000*. (*Local authority groups can only apply for up to £1,000 for equipment and consumables only).

For example, this funding can cover;

  • Building hire
  • Staffing costs
  • Training
  • Food and beverages
  • Equipment.

When applying for the grant the application should reflect the following outcomes:-

  • Young people are confident, resilient and optimistic for the future
  • Young people manage personal, social and formal relationships
  • Young people express their voice and demonstrate social commitment
  • Young people broaden their perspectives through new experiences and thinking.

A requirement of this grant is that all activities;

  • are structured around the needs of young people locally
  • are universal and open-access provision
  • are outside of school/educational hours
  • are open to 11-19 year olds (up to 25 with SEN)- if an activity is open to a bigger age group we will only fund the cost of those within our target age range
  • do not require a referral to attend
  • do not cost more than £2 per session for young people.

To support you in your application, please see below exactly what your applications will be scored on:

Activity provision

  • Activities are pre-planned and engaging for the children and young people attending and you have clearly set out what they will be doing (this will be used as a basis for your QA visits).
  • Activities are enriching (they support participants to develop new skills, build on existing skills, meet new friends or try new things).
  • The intended audience has been considered in relation to the start/end times.
  • “Wet weather plans” – Are your activities outdoors? Have you considered what your provision will look like in the event of bad weather?

Other details

  • A clear promotional plan is in place – The methods you will use to promote your activities have been considered (e.g. promoting to schools in your around your venue or advertising on your social media channels).
  • Efforts have been made to make your provision accessible and inclusive (e.g. have you considered an additional staff member or are you able to provide 1:1 support if necessary?).
  • The provision is value for money – the leadership team will compare your costs with a similar provision to judge whether they believe it is value for money.
  • Delivery staff are equipped to provide signposting and referrals to participants or families who may need it.

Please note: we may be oversubscribed with applications and the above scoring process will be used to decide the successful Grant Awards.
