Home First Myos House

Our team and what we do

Home First Myos House are a team of 25 staff who provide support for those living with dementia. Myos House is an Extra Care Housing scheme.

Who we support

Those who have early onset dementia and living independently within their community, with on site support.

Roles within Home First Myos House Team

  • Registered Team Manager – ensures CQC compliant, Quality Assurance, NLC policies and procedures compliant
  • Senior Officer – oversees day to day management of team, rotas, issues
  • Care Officer – support to seniors but also supervisors, also assist with covering rotas, key workers
  • Day Assistants – undertake calls and visits on site, report / escalate any issues or concerns, respond to pendant calls
  • Night Assistants – undertake on call, on site, for those living within the extra care housing scheme. Provide calls in the night if required and respond to pendant calls

Describe a typical day in the life of the whole team

  • Rotas are provided for the assistants which lists who they are scheduled to visit and what support is needed, time and how long
  • Updating of Paperwork, case notes, and reading risk assessments for any changes
  • IT used for case notes and accessing data system
  • Support is provided on site
  • Reporting any concerns and dealing with any crisis interventions with support of Duty Senior or Officer
  • Respond to pendant alarm calls throughout the day and night.

Describe a typical day of a job in your team

  • Phone calls, visits, community support etc
  • Paperwork, IT use
  • Urgent cases, crisis
  • Provide personal care, administering or assisting with medication, meal preparation, nutrition and fluids
  • Assist with washing, showering, personal
  • Attend hand overs at the start and end of each shift for any changes to support

What qualities does your team look for in someone wanting to pursue a career in this area?

Someone who is caring, has good communication skills, compassionate, courageous, is competent and committed to their role

What advice would you give someone just getting started?

  • Take up opportunities to shadow for experience
  • Willingness to undertake training
  • Ask question
  • Be curious
  • Be punctual
