20-21 Visual Arts Centre in Scunthorpe is hosting a major exhibition by internationally recognised North Lincolnshire artist Annabel McCourt from 12 April to 5 July 2025.
‘I’m Sorry’ is Annabel’s first retrospective exhibition and features a selection of her most thought-provoking works, including MAGA Grabber – featuring Donald Trump – and Electric Fence, an interactive installation.
The artist, born in Grimsby and based in Barton-upon-Humber, has gained global recognition with commissions and exhibitions in Australia, China, Brazil, Senegal and across the UK.
The artwork explores a wide range of themes including world politics, social justice, feminism, and LGBTQIA+ history.
The exhibition includes a variety of sculptures, installations, and interactive pieces designed to provoke thought and conversation, while remaining accessible to a wide audience.
Works include:
- MAGA Grabber – A satirical installation critiquing political slogans and global consumerism.
- Theatre of War – A striking piece reflecting on the portrayal of conflict in media.
- Electric Fence – An interactive installation challenging ideas of prejudice and exclusion.
- I’m Sorry – A powerful, reflective new work on grief, apology, and healing.
- Flying the Flag – A series of flags celebrating queer history.
- Delphine – A cinematic short film exploring love and the environment.
- Up In Smoke – A sound installation using smokehouse cowls, inspired by Grimsby’s maritime heritage.
20-21 is working with local schools and community groups to deliver educational and creative sessions in response to the exhibition.
The exhibition is supported by Arts Council England.
