The Twilight walk is back! The fostering team invite you to save the date in your diaries and pledge an evening in your local community to raise awareness for fostering and celebrate the inspirational foster carers supporting young people in care in North Lincolnshire and around the UK.

In just a few short weeks, it will be the start of this year’s Foster Care Fortnight, from 12 to 25 May 2025 – an annual campaign set up by The Fostering Network to raise the profile of fostering and show how foster care transforms lives.

This year, you can join the fostering team with your friends and family on Friday 16 May by participating in the Twilight Walk. Beginning at Church Square, Scunthorpe, arrival is from 5.45pm with the walk starting at 6pm prompt. The Twilight Walk will go to Central Park and back, ending back at Church Square, which will be lit up orange in celebration of Foster Care Fortnight.

Cllr Julie Reed, Cabinet Member for Children, Families, and Communities, said: “Our Twilight Walk is a chance for us to celebrate our inspirational foster carers and the unwavering commitment in helping our young people and children in care flourish and grow in our local community.

“This year is set to be our biggest and best year yet. The theme for this year’s Foster Care Fortnight is The Power of Relationships and we are highlighting this in the best way possible by a showing of coming together as we step out at twilight with fostering friendly members, colleagues and you, our community.

“Our foster carers are an amazing group of people, dedicated to making the lives of some of our most vulnerable children better, they are patient, supportive and resilient.  They welcome into their homes and families,  children who have often had a very difficult to start to life.  Our foster carers are committed to help heal our children and encourage them to be the best that they can and to believe that with our support they can realise their ambitions and dreams.

“I am proud to be part of our  North Lincolnshire  fostering community and want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of them for their continued dedication to the lives of our young people.”

This walk is a chance to connect with others, enjoy North Lincolnshire’s green spaces, and celebrate the incredible role foster carers play in shaping young people’s lives.

Everyone is welcome to take part, join the fostering team, bring along friends and family and dress head to toe in orange or fancy dress. Displaying the true meaning of #ThePowerofRelationships – because at the heart of every fostering journey are the connections that make all the difference.

One North Lincolnshire foster carer has said about how important their relationship with their social worker is: “You have been amazing, you are like family. You’ve been there for us from day one.”

Another local foster carer said of their social worker: “The world of fostering is so much easier with a good Fostering Social Worker. Thank you.”

As part of the Foster Care Fortnight celebrations, the fostering team are also going to be hosting an appreciation event for all of the foster carers and supported lodgings hosts at Normanby Hall – a chance to personally thank them for all that they do all year round and to celebrate them, showcasing further the true power of relationships.
