Families living with dementia can now receive information, help and support from a new service which brings everything they need under one roof for the first time.

Dementia Direct is run by local charity The Carers’ Support Service, which has been commissioned by North Lincolnshire Council and Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) to deliver a whole host of support for residents, including:

• Information and advice,
• Emotional Support
• Counselling
• Befriending
• Training and wellbeing activities
• Support from peers

Mike Humphries, the CEO of The Carers’ Support Service expressed the importance of the new service bringing support for carers, family members and those living with dementia all in one place.

Following more than 30 years of supporting the carers of someone living with dementia, a new holistic family approach will now be taken to help ensure those living with and are affected by dementia get the support they need.

Dementia Direct is open to anyone who has concerns about their memory, their family and carers and people do not need a diagnosis to access support from the service.

It provides specialist support designed to provide an understanding of dementia, focusses on wellbeing and living well.

Rosa Torraca, Service Manager for the Carers’ Support Service said: “Our team are on hand to provide support, information and advice, training, workshops, peer groups and advocacy.”

“Because we have been supporting carers for so long, we are acutely aware of the challenges that both people living with dementia and their carers face, from first realising there may be memory problems, through to accessing care via care agencies.”

“It is our job to be there every step of the way, to make the journey through dementia as easy as we can, and to improve awareness and support of dementia in North Lincolnshire.”

Dementia Action Week begins on Monday 15 May and runs until Sunday 21 May 2023. During this week the Carers’ Support Service will be raising awareness of dementia, the local support available and encourage anyone with concerns or in need of a helping hand to get in touch.

On Monday 15 May, people living with dementia and their carers are invited to join the Dementia Direct team at 11 Redcombe Lane in Brigg to take part in activities during the day. Professionals are invited to drop in and find out more between 4pm and 7pm.
