More than 7,000 free swimming sessions were taken up by children and young people across North Lincolnshire this summer as part of the council’s Summer Daze offer.
The initiative gave children aged 16 and under free access to swimming sessions throughout the school holidays, helping families stay active and entertained during the six-week break.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Once again Summer Daze has been a huge success. Thousands of children have enjoyed swimming with their friends and families over the summer. Providing these opportunities free of charge has helped families keep the cost down while making sure young people are staying active and healthy.”
In total, the scheme was enjoyed 7,157 times, with around 180 swimming sessions taking place across local leisure centres.
Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children, families, and communities, said: “It is fantastic to see so many children and young people making the most of Summer Daze. Swimming is a wonderful way to keep fit and build confidence, and we know how valuable it is for families to have safe and fun activities to do together during the holidays.”
The Summer Daze initiative has now concluded for 2025, but the council continues to provide a wide range of opportunities for children and families throughout the year.
Schemes like Summer Daze are supported through the council’s ongoing commitment to families and communities. These services could be at risk if the Government’s proposed ‘super councils’ go ahead.
