People who start a care role with a homecare provider in North Lincolnshire this summer will be able to benefit from free childcare, thanks to Government cash.

Working in care is a varied and hugely satisfying role, offering flexible hours and opportunities for career progression.

Now, thanks to a new scheme, organised by North Lincolnshire Council, it is even easier to get started.

Anyone who takes up, or is currently employed in a homecare role, helping residents to live independently in their own home, will receive funded childcare up to 30 September 2021.

After receiving a job offer from a homecare provider, the applicant will be able to select a childcare setting of their choice.

Supporting someone in their home, you will make a huge difference to their daily life, helping with activities including preparing meals, administering medication and shopping.

The new scheme is part of North Lincolnshire’s biggest ever recruitment drive for care workers. The recently launched Proud to Care website makes it easy for users to see what jobs are available, apply, access information and useful guidance, and hear from the experiences of local care workers.

Cllr Richard Hannigan, deputy leader of North Lincolnshire Council and cabinet member for adults and health, said:

“There are lots of kind and compassionate people across North Lincolnshire who may be considering working in care, but who are prevented from doing this by meeting childcare costs.

“This is a fantastic scheme that removes this barrier, making it even easier for local residents to start or return to employment.

“We have had unprecedented levels of Government support through the pandemic and we are allocating this cash to enable more people to stay safe and well.

“I would encourage people to visit the Proud to Care website and find out more about the exciting opportunities that are available in North Lincolnshire.”

Rachel, 34, started her career in care at the age of 18, after finishing school and never looked back.

“When I lost my grandma, care work was something I wanted to do. Helping individuals to live the best life possible is so rewarding.”

“I love my job, because, working with people, they become your second family. I look forward to coming to work; the bonds that you build with people, the relationships and making someone feel valued makes a difference to me.”

“If I can sum up what I do in one word, it would be “amazing”.
