Residents and motorists in Brigg can expect a noticeably smoother and safer driving experience following confirmation of a major programme of resurfacing planned for next month.

North Lincolnshire Council is investing in the full resurfacing of several key roads across the town, improving ride quality, addressing long-standing wear and tear, and reducing the need for repeat repairs.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Spring is getting closer every day – the light evenings are drawing out, the weather is starting to improve, and with fingers crossed for more settled conditions we’re gearing up for major improvements to roads right across North Lincolnshire.

“This investment is about improving everyday journeys and making sure people can travel around their towns and villages more smoothly and safely – we know how much this matters and know that it needs doing now.”

The works will involve full carriageway planing and inlay, alongside the renewal or resetting of ironwork, delivering longer-lasting improvements for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians in Elwes Street, Bigby Street, Bigby Road to Princes Street, Wrawby Street, Queen Street and Colton Street.

Cllr Neil Poole, deputy leader and cabinet member for highways, added: “This programme has been planned and phased as part of our wider, long-term approach to maintaining and improving the highway network.

“By taking a coordinated, programme-based approach and carrying out full resurfacing rather than short-term fixes, we can make better use of funding, minimise repeat disruption and deliver road improvements that last.”

Access

The resurfacing works will take place between 9 February and 1 March 2026 and will be carried out in stages across three areas:

  • Elwes Street / Bigby Street / Bigby Road to Princes Street
  • Wrawby Street / Queen Street
  • Colton Street (Ash Grove to Grammar School Road)

Some roads will need to be closed at times while work is underway. Pedestrian and emergency access will always be available.

To help people plan:

  • Residents and businesses directly affected will be contacted in advance
  • Advance warning signs will be in place at least two weeks before works start
  • The programme has been phased to keep disruption to a minimum.

While works are taking place on Wrawby Street, Queen Street and Colton Street, residents can park free of charge in any North Lincolnshire Council car park.
