Aspiring entrepreneurs are being encouraged to take the next step to grow their business by joining North Lincolnshire’s thriving market community.
The free-to-attend Market Traders Open Evening takes place on Wednesday 1 October from 5pm to 7pm at St John’s Market, Scunthorpe (DN15 6RB).
The event will showcase opportunities to take a stall at St John’s Market as well as other open-air markets. Existing traders and business support teams will be on hand to share advice, answer questions and offer first-hand experience of running a successful stall.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Local people with a good idea can earn an income and build a loyal customer base on our markets.
“Rents are affordable, support is available, and you’ll join a community of traders who look out for each other. Don’t forget – even Marks & Spencer started out from a market stall.”
St John’s Market was opened by the council in 2019 following a multi-million-pound investment in a then vacant town centre store – it continues to give traders and shoppers a modern, vibrant space and has become a hub for local enterprise.
Cllr John Davison, cabinet member for community wellbeing (urban), added: “Our markets are at the heart of local life. They are friendly, busy spaces with thousands of regular shoppers and visitors from across the region – a great opportunity.”
North Lincolnshire’s markets attract thousands of visitors every week, offering traders a ready-made customer base and a low-cost way to launch or grow their business.
