With what looks to be a very different Christmas just around the corner people are being urged dust off their Christmas lights, decorate their houses and make North Lincolnshire shine bright this year.

For the first time ever the lighting up of Scunthorpe Town Centre is being done virtually this year. The lights will be switched on at 6pm on 28 November 2020 by Cllr Rob Waltham and panto star Annie Fanny.

To mark the official lights switch on, residents can share their very own virtual lights switch on through social media between 28 November 2020 and 6 December 2020 using the hashtag #northlincsxmaslights with the chance to win a prize.

There are three prizes up for grabs for the houses deemed ‘best decorated’ throughout all of North Lincolnshire. Two runners up will each get a £50 High Street voucher and the overall winner will get a £150 High Street voucher. Get planning those decorations, sharing your entries and be a part in making North Lincolnshire the best it can be this Christmas.

Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“While towns across North Lincolnshire can’t have their usual Christmas lights switch on events, we can all get together virtually to help spread some Christmas cheer.

“It has been a challenging year, but coming together, even virtually, can help our families, friends and communities enter the festive sprit and spread some happiness.”

Annie Fanny, who is usually the star of the popular panto in North Lincolnshire added:

“The annual light switch on signals the start of Christmas for me each year. In 2020, like most things, we are doing it a little bit differently.

“I can’t wait to see the streets and houses of North Lincs decorated with millions of twinkling lights. It’s time to get creative. I think we could all do with some extra magic and sparkle this year! Merry Christmas.”
