Libraries across North Lincolnshire are now open for longer, used by more people, and offering more support than ever before.
Residents greater access to learning, digital help, community activities and safe, welcoming spaces close to home.
In the last ten years, opening hours at council-run libraries have increased by more than 20 per cent, meaning people can visit earlier, later and more often – whether that’s to borrow books, get online, attend activities, study, or simply spend time in a warm, friendly space.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Libraries matter because they support people in real, everyday ways – whether that’s helping someone get online, giving children a love of reading, or providing a safe and welcoming place in the heart of the community.
“I know as a kid, I really valued the library in Brigg as did all my family and friends – while most other councils are stripping back library opening times, we’re expanding them because we know they matter to residents.
“Young and old alike are able to access libraries and we’re committed to making them even more accessible.”
The expansion has been made possible through a mix of traditional staffed hours and flexible self-access sessions, and many community volunteers giving residents the freedom to use their local library at times that fit around work, family and daily life – while still ensuring personal support is available when it’s needed most.
Far from being just places to borrow books, libraries now play a growing role as community hubs — supporting learning, wellbeing, digital inclusion and social connection for people of all ages.
Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for safer, stronger communities, said: “The council runs many of the libraries, but there is also a small army of volunteers who give their time freely across the area who make these spaces open and accessible.
“The libraries across North Lincolnshire continue to evolve alongside our communities, and we remain committed to investing in spaces that support learning, wellbeing and opportunity for residents of all ages.
“That includes inspiring the next generation of readers – with more than one million books already gifted to young children across North Lincolnshire through the Imagination Library scheme.”
