Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, welcomed today’s announcement that the Government is to boost council finances by £600m – with £500m of this going to councils that provide social care like North Lincolnshire.

Cllr Waltham, said: “This is welcome news from the Government and will really help us support our communities in North Lincolnshire. The boost to our finances will enable us to invest even more in protecting the most vulnerable children and adults, as well as deliver on local residents priorities.

“The Government has recognised that councils across the country have faced challenges with the impact of global inflation and have provided more cash to meet these challenges. In North Lincolnshire we pride ourselves on tight financial controls that have enabled us to balance the budgets every year and at the same time keep council tax down. Thanks to this we were one of the few councils that was able to freeze council tax last year.

“We will continue to provide value for money for local tax payers and at the same time invest to support communities. This extra government cash will go a long way to help with this.”

Levelling Up Secretary, Michael Gove said: “We have listened to councils across England about the pressures they’re facing and have always stood ready to help those in need.

“This additional £600 million support package illustrates our commitment to local government. We are in their corner, and we support the incredible and often unsung work they do day-to-day to support people across the country.”
