Scunthorpe residents are being urged to get involved in shaping the future of their neighbourhoods – deciding what matters most and how investment can make a real difference to community life.
A series of workshops will take place across the coming month, giving residents the chance to drive change. Every idea shared and every conversation held will help create a plan that builds a better future for the people who live and work in the town.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This is not about bricks and mortar, it’s about creating opportunities for families, supporting local groups, and giving communities the power to shape their own future.
“This investment is the natural next step in the levelling up journey we started with the previous Government. Tens of millions of pounds have already been secured across North Lincolnshire, laying the foundations for change – new infrastructure, better facilities and fresh opportunities for local people.
“This money is specifically for Scunthorpe and we want to build on what we know really matters: better play areas, safer streets through things like CCTV and better lighting, and investment in community centres where people can access bingo, lunch clubs or fitness classes. This is about giving people the power to shape their future and ensuring Scunthorpe thrives.”
It comes as part of the £20m Plan for Neighbourhoods – previously known as the Long-Term Plan for Towns and will see a series of community meetings – called NeighbourhoodLABs – take place across Scunthorpe throughout September and October.
These open sessions, hosted by Scunthorpe Tomorrow, will give residents the chance to share their views, highlight priorities and put forward ideas for positive change.
Alongside the meetings, residents can also take part in a simple online survey.
Tyrone Curran, from Scunthorpe Tomorrow, said: “This is a real chance for people in Scunthorpe to shape the future of their own communities. I’d urge everyone to come along to one of the NeighbourhoodLAB sessions, find out more about the project, and share their ideas. Every conversation, every suggestion will help guide the priorities for the next ten years.
“It’s really important too that as many people as possible complete the survey – it’s quick, simple, and makes sure your voice is part of the plan – but I’d encourage people to come along to one of the meetings first. Together we can make Scunthorpe stronger, safer and a place we’re all proud to call home.”
Cllr Andrea Davison, sits on the Plan for Neighbourhoods Board. She said: “We want to use the money we have to have maximum impact for as many people as possible.
“It might be a quick win like improving CCTV coverage – but just as vital is making sure the money supports and builds on the community activity already happening.”
