North Lincolnshire residents have issued a resounding ‘no’ to the Government’s proposals for major changes to planning rules that could see double the amount of houses built in North Lincolnshire each year, farmland used for houses, and the development of more wind and solar schemes in the countryside.
Nearly 1,000 residents purposely stated their views on the proposals in a survey organised by the council.
The results, to be discussed at a North Lincolnshire Cabinet meeting on 30 September, show:
• More than seven out of ten people are against the increase in building new houses
• More than eight out of ten people are against building more houses on farmland used to grow food
• Eight out of ten people are against building taller homes with less parking
• More than half of local people are against building more onshore wind and solar farms
• Almost all residents support protecting areas of significant historical or environmental interest
• More than 80 per cent people do not want to see more planning applications decided by central Government
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council said: “Local residents in North Lincolnshire have made their views on the proposed Government changes to planning rules very clear – they do not want them, and they do not support them.
“Local residents are overwhelmingly against removing the protection we can give our countryside environment from inappropriate major developments and building more houses on farmland.
“We have sent the results of the survey to the Government and would hope they listen to the voices of the residents.”
