Residents across North Lincolnshire can stop using recycling boxes and start putting everything in their burgundy bins.

Paper, glass and cans can now go in the same bin as cardboard and plastic, as the council fast-tracks the first stage of its simpler recycling system.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This is about making things simpler for residents, sooner. No more sorting, no more boxes, just one bin for recycling. We’re getting on with it.

“This is the end of getting dripped on in your slippers from tin cans and empty jam jars.”

More than 58,000 households already have their new, larger burgundy bin, with the remaining deliveries set to be completed by the end of March. All burgundy bins – new or old – can be used.

What residents need to do now

  • Start using your burgundy bin for cardboard, plastic, glass, paper and cans
  • Keep using your brown bin as normal – just for garden waste – until April
  • Keep using your green and black bins as normal
  • Collection days remain the same until the first week of April
  • Check your leaflet or visit the website for full details and for your new collection day from 6 April.

Cllr Neil Poole, deputy leader and cabinet member for waste, said: “We promised to simplify the way residents recycle, making it easier to put everything in one bin – and we’re now delivering that early.

“People don’t need to wait. The new system for all dry recycling is live and households can start using it now.”

The next stage of the recycling changes – updates to brown bin collections – will launch from 6 April. Residents can visit the Simply Recycling page on the council website or follow North Lincolnshire Council on Facebook for updates.
