Homeowners in and around Crowle are being offered the chance to cut their energy bills and help balance the local power grid – with no upfront costs.

North Lincolnshire Council are supporting Northern Powergrid and E.ON Next on an exciting pilot project installing fully-funded home batteries in Crowle.

The batteries store cheaper overnight electricity from the National Grid and release it during peak times – reducing demand on the local grid and cutting bills, without any change to how residents use their energy.

The batteries don’t have any impact on the homeowner’s own energy consumption.

Through the E.ON Next Battery Boost Trial, eligible residents can:

• Save £120 a year on their energy bills (a guaranteed £10 credit each month)
• Receive a £100 gift card after installation
• Get a 13.5kWh home battery installed and maintained free of charge
• The next 15 customers to sign up will get double the annual benefit – a £40 credit on customer bills for the first 12 months.

Cllr David Rose, cabinet member for environment and strategy, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for local residents to save money and be part of an innovative project supporting greener, smarter energy use in our communities.

“This is exactly the type of project we want to see in North Lincolnshire, and it aligns with our continuing roll-out of solar panels to schools, colleges and community buildings as well as our commitment to increasing the number of on-street EV charging points across the region.

“It is good to see Crowle leading the way in helping shape the future of energy.”

Crowle resident Angus has already taken advantage of the scheme: “It took a day to install, very smooth. I’m quite impressed with their professionalism. The battery doesn’t make a noise, it’s hidden away, you wouldn’t know it’s there unless it was pointed out to you. It’s almost invisible.

“I don’t know why other people aren’t joining the pilot, it seems to be all the benefits are on the consumer side. I’m surprised there aren’t more people trying it.”

After 12 months, participants have three options:
• Renew onto one of E.ON Next’s energy tariffs
• Cancel the trial and have the battery removed free of charge
• Buy the battery from E.ON Next at a discounted price.

Eligibility is dependent on postcode and you must be the homeowner and have a smart meter – or be willing to have one installed – to qualify.
