North Lincolnshire Council is designating an area of land known as Top Field, in Barton-upon-Humber, as a village green to protect for future generations.

The new village green, measuring over 3.5 acres, sits to the south of the roundabout on the A1077 at the entrance to Barton.

This provides a fantastic opportunity for the local community to take control of its future and ensure that it is turned into an excellent community asset.

Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“We have kept our promise to protect this green space at Top Field for the people of Barton and by designating the area as a village green, we know it will be retained for future generations. It sits next to the Barton Wolds Nature Reserve nature reserve which was declared last year, bringing the total number of nature reserves across North Lincolnshire to 17.

“If you’re interested in helping to shape the future of the village green, get in touch. We’ve been maintaining the green space here for a number of years, and now we can let the community take control of its future and turn it into a fantastic community asset. We have already received a number of suggestions from residents about how they would like to improve the area including wild flower areas and defined walkways. We allocated 11.9 hectares for Barton Wolds Nature Reserve next to this land last year and protecting this area as a village green is a natural next step.”
