North Lincolnshire Council’s leader has welcomed the Scunthorpe United FC takeover deal.
Led by former commercial director Michelle Harness, a new group has purchased the now former chairman David Hilton’s controlling stake in the National League North club.
Cllr Rob Waltham said: “It is really great news that a deal has been done, it will bring some much-needed stability to the club and will be a relief to the fans.
“There is still a long road ahead to re-establish the solid foundations needed to create a long term, sustainable future for Scunthorpe United and the task at hand for the new board is by no means small.
“The best thing people can do now is stay together, get behind the team and give Michelle and the new board the space they need to get things into a semblance of order.”
It comes after the deal was revealed in a club statement on Wednesday afternoon, stating: “Scunthorpe United can confirm that a takeover has been completed for the club by local businesswoman Michelle Harness.
“A current Director of the club, and former Commercial Manager of over 15 years at the Iron, Michelle has acquired the club from the outgoing David Hilton.”
