North Lincolnshire Council has issued a fresh warning to rubbish dumpers, fly-tippers and other envirocrime offenders – ‘we’re watching you, and we will fine you’.

Environmental crime officers have caught and penalised offenders from Barton, Crowle, Hull and Scunthorpe for offences ranging from abandoning cars to illegal rubbish dumping.

The latest round-up includes:

  • Barton: A resident abandoned their vehicle, committing an offence under the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978. A £200 fixed penalty notice was issued and paid in full.
  • Crowle: A resident failed to ensure his waste was transferred to an authorised person, breaching the Household Waste Duty of Care under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. He was fined £600, reduced to £400 for a quick payment.
  • Local car wash: The company failed to provide waste transfer documents when requested, contravening Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. They were given a £300 fine.
  • Scunthorpe North: A resident admitted dumping waste in the alleyway behind their home, breaching the Public Space Protection Order under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. They had to pay a £100 fine.
  • Scunthorpe North: A visitor from Hull breached the Public Space Protection Order and was a £100 fine for contravening Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2011.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The message is simple – if you dump rubbish, abandon vehicles or fail to follow the law, we will catch you and you will pay.

“Thanks to our envirocrime officers and the public’s help, we are cleaning up our communities and making life tough for the selfish few who think the rules don’t apply to them.”

Residents are urged to report any sightings of fly-tipping or waste dumping, with photos if possible, via the flytipping section of our website.
