Young carers in North Lincolnshire are set to enjoy new adventures, build friendships and develop life skills thanks to a £1,000 grant helping them take a well-earned break from their daily responsibilities.

The funding is giving young carers – who balance school life with supporting family members – the chance to enjoy activities designed to boost confidence, teamwork and resilience.

From high ropes challenges to problem-solving games, every experience is about fun, freedom and friendship.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “I was a young carer – I know how difficult it is, and how much of difference these breaks will make.”

Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children and families, said: “Young carers give so much of themselves to support loved ones, often juggling school, home life, and caring duties.

“They take on roles and responsibilities way beyond their years, and we wanted to give something back, so they have a chance to just be young, to laugh, learn and enjoy time away from the pressures of caring. These are things that really matter to them.

“The days out are a small but powerful way to say thankyou and to build the confidence and connections that will help them thrive long after the activities are over.”

The adventures will also bring young carers together in a safe, supportive environment where they can share experiences and know they’re not alone.

The funding comes from the council’s Positive Activities grants scheme, one of several designed to help communities across North Lincolnshire thrive.

Through this and other programmes, the council supports projects that make a difference – enabling communities to grow stronger, more connected, and better equipped for the future.
