West Butterwick - Willow Cottage walking route

Start

Village Hall, Ulyett Lane, off West Street, West Butterwick. There is a sign on West Street indicating the way to the Village Hall.             

Route

  1. Leave the Village Hall and walk down Ulyett Lane , turn right into West Street.
  2. Opposite the entrance to Carr lane is Willow Cottage (number 90) turn right down the side of the cottage along a footpath to the distant M180. The dyke along side the path is Willow Cottage Dyke.
  3. At the pumping station, cross the bridge over the drain, turn right to join the public footpath heading towards the river bank. Carefully cross the road.
  4. Turn right walking along the river bank to outskirts of West Butterwick Village. Walk along North Street to the public footpath (signed Millenium Footpath).
  5. Turn right down Millenium Footpath, passing the bungalows on The Croft. Follow the footpath back to the recreation ground and to the Village Hall.               
Time

Allow an hour and a half at a steady pace.   

Terrain

Largely flat except for the short climb onto and off the Trent floodbank. The walk comprises a mixture of road, pavement, dykeside and fieldside paths, which can get wet and muddy, one road crossing North Street, can be  exposed in autumn and winter.      

Refreshments    

There are pubs in area, including The Ferry Boat Inn.   

Toilets

None, unless the Village Hall is open.
