St John’s Market has stepped up its commitment to the local community, with traders pulling out all the stops to make sure shoppers stay safe while getting fresh produce.
Traders have successfully adapted to new circumstances, with some now offering a mobile service, while others have collaborated with each other to provide customer deliveries.
Social distancing measures have been successfully implemented, including a one-way system and the two-metre rule.
A statement from the traders thanked shoppers for adhering to the guidelines and keeping people safe.
“We are delighted that the market is still open in these difficult times – it means a lot to us to be serving the public.
“Many of us have diversified into home deliveries which has brought new customers but also meant we are able to help some of our more vulnerable customers who are not able to come in to the market.”
You can get all your essential items at the market – current traders include butchers Angelos, Bacon Charlies and Taylors, Judges for meat and fresh pies, fishmonger MJ Capps, Bales for pet food, Barnes for confectionery, Dawsons and Tutti Fruitiers for fruit and veg, Teasdales for bread and Springtime Eggs (Friday and Saturday).
Other traders may not be on site but they are still open for business. Brads is delivering takeaway food – including their famous gyros. Sharon at Sew Beautiful is making facemasks for care workers and the general public. And you can get your sugar hit from Nanny Anne’s, who is also offering a same-day delivery service.
